SALES

Tups are sold at Cockermouth (formerly held at Keswick), the Association’s official ram sale on the first Saturday in October (auctioneers: Mitchells). At this sale only registered tups can be sold but at Broughton in Furness on the first Tuesday in October (auctioneers Ulverston Auction Co.). There are also a small number of unregistered tups on offer alongside a greater number of registered tups.

Draft ewes are available at Cockermouth (Mitchells), Broughton in Furness (H&H Kendal Partnership), Kendal (H&H Kendal Partnership) and Penrith (Penrith & District Farmers Mart) in various sales in late September and October.

PRIZE SHOWS

There are Prize Shows at Cockermouth and at Penrith and at these sales there are also usually younger ewes available. Gimmer hoggs (ewe lambs) are often available at the Cockermouth Prize Sale and the earlier ‘Troutbeck’ sales held at Penrith.

In recent years the Herdwick Sheep Breeders’ Association has facilitated the sale of Herdwick tups and ewes at the main NSA Wales. Details from 01291 673 939.

Available for private sale scrapie genotyped mainly type 1 and 2 stock: ewe lambs (gimmer hoggs), ewes in lamb or with lambs at foot depending on time of year. Ewes in lamb to W Richardson, Gatesgarth, Buttermere stock and ewe lambs got by same.
